Turning your ideas into reality

The Product Design Process

Idea Conception

This is the part you have already done: when you dreamed up your product.

A graphic of a person with a lightbulb above their head signifying an idea

First Stage Prototyping

Where your product's main functionality is proven and tested, it might not be pretty but at this point you know it works.

Software/Firmware Design

This step runs concurrently with first stage prototyping. The brains of your product are coded.

Circuit and PCB Design

Your product's PCB is carefully designed with the foresight to make sure it will be suitable for manufacture and certification later on.

Second Stage Prototyping

Now your product is closer to reality, the product prototype is made and tested.

3D Design

Once you are confident in the form factor of the electronics: the housing, and any other mechanical elements are designed.

Enclosure Prototyping

After your enclosure is designed its functionality is tested with 3D prints to make sure it is perfect.

Final Testing

This is where everything comes together and any imperfections are ironed out so your product is exactly as you want.

Certifications

The boring but important part; certifications allow your product to be marketed and manufactured.

Manufacture

Now the product is complete it can be manufactured at scale.

Market

Finally you can bring your product to market, the dream is now reality.

Services

"I take a more holistic approach to the engineering aspect of product design by handling the technical components with your overall goal in mind."

                                                             -Harry (Founder MariOnyx)

Want expert help but don’t need an engineer to take on your entire project? Book a product development consultancy session with Harry, the founder of MariOnyx. He will curate general advice and guidance on your project to help get things off the ground. Getting started is the hardest part, after a consultancy session you will have the knowledge and confidence to begin your product development journey.

What you get

  • A 40 minute 1-to-1 meeting with Harry, who will conduct further research into your product after the meeting

  • The opportunity to ask technical or general questions about developing your product

  • Expert advice on things like materials, component selection, manufacturing ect.

  • And, a report containing a bespoke roadmap specifically for your product so you can bring your design to life with confidence.

Consultancy Session With Bespoke Roadmap

All of the following services assign you a dedicated engineer that also acts as a single point of contact to ensure things are moving in the direction you want.

This service gets your project off the ground by producing a prototype of your idea that incorporates the basic hardware that will be used in your final design.

At the end of ths service, you will have a working prototype and the confidence in us to continue developing your design into a marketable or personally useable product.

During this service your engineer will

  • Conduct R&D

  • Purchase relevant components

  • Consult with you

  • And, build a working model.

Electronics Prototyping

Not only will the PCB and schematic be designed for your product, but components will be carefully selected such that they meet your budget and production requirements. The design will be made with the future of your project in mind by adhering to the constraints of your chosen manufacturer, and if needed: certification authorities.

In this service your engineer will design/provide

  • Schematic

  • PCB Design

  • Smart component selection

  • Bill of Materials

  • And, Gerber and Drill Files

Circuit/PCB Design

Whether your product is purely mechanical or an electronics device that needs an enclosure, you will be provided with a 3D design that will enable the prototyping and/or production of your product. Time is taken to ensure the 3D model is designed to accommodate your chosen manufacturing process like 3D printing or injection moulding for example.

This service provides you with

  • A 3D model of your design

  • And, technical drawings if required.

3D Design

Using FDM 3D printers your design can quickly be tested and built to make sure its form factor is as you need it to be. Seeing your product in real life is an important step in the design process. Because 3D printing is a quick method of producing a sample of your product, fast and well-informed changes can be made before you commit to a design.

In this service your engineer will

  • 3D print your product for immediate testing

  • And, ship your sample product to you if needed.

3D Prototyping

Various forms of coding solutions utilising C++ and Python can be provided. If your design utilises a microcontroller, its full functionality is ensured with a robust codebase that is properly tested and implemented so your product works exactly as it should. Or perhaps you need a desktop app to aid with your product’s functionality, either way, it can be done.

This service includes

  • Firmware coding in C++

  • General microcontroller programming

  • Desktop application development

  • Or, general Python coding

 Programming

Your product will be taken through the full certification process, so it meets the correct standards to be awarded the relevant certifications that allow you to legally enter your product to market.

Your engineer will

  • Consult with credible certifying advisors

  • Conduct tests and collect evidence

  • Compile a full conformity technical documentation pack

  • Send your product off for testing where necessary

  • And, make design changes to meet requirements if needed.

Hello, I am Harry, founder of MariOnyx. Having studied physics at university I have a theoretical understanding of electronics, my practical experience comes from developing my own product; Switchygo, an amalgamation of a fidget toy and a retro-gaming device. After learning product development the hard way, I founded MariOnyx under the ambition to be the person I wish I had access to when I was developing my own product. Unlike most product development companies MariOnyx will engage with you on a personal level to bring your idea to fruition. Whether you need me to take your project from start to finish or handle just a single aspect, I am here to help.
